    • A tuned McLaren 570S and APR tuned MKIII Audi TT-RS hit the dragstrip in Colorado elevation - 1/4 mile results

Always interesting to see how density altitude affects performance and in this case how high performance cars in Colorado in particular see a major impact. A tuned McLaren 570S and APR tuned TT-RS hit the Bandimere dragstrip in 7000+ feet of density altitude.

      Check out the conditions:

The 570S has catless downpipes and a tune. It was running 91 octane pump fuel.

The TT-RS is a Stage 2 APR tuned car on E85. It also has the Eurocode throttle body inlet piece.

Car number 831 is the Audi and 832 is the McLaren:

The McLaren is indeed faster but the Audi is hot on its heels at the 1/4 mile mark. A 1.926 for the 570S is simply a poor launch.

Amazing a TT-RS with bolt ons can challenge a McLaren at the dragstrip.

Iím a big dude at 6í4 250 LBS. The McLaren weighed in at 3420 LBS today with me in it. My 18 year old son was driving the Audi. The Audi weighed in at 3555 LBS with him in it. The Audi and McLaren are both full weight street cars. The Audi is running 18Ē wheels which saves some weight.

Unfortunately, on the third Audi run the throttle body intake popped off the IC. My son only got two runs in with his best being a 11.036 at 125.99. He and I lined up together on our first run of the day and I ran a 10.921 at 131.50 in the McLaren vs his 11.066 at 126.05 in the Audi. Even with launch control the 570ís have a tough time cutting a decent 60í. My best run in the 570 is a 10.68 at 132 at a DA of about 8000í. Ignore the reaction times. We were messing with launch control and not trying to cut a good tree.

I was so bummed that we only got two runs in the Audi before we had to call it a day. Iím convinced we would have seen a 10.9x. This car impresses the hell out of me. Stage 2 and itís quicker at this altitude than a stock McLaren 570s. 126 MPH at a 7720 DA is moving!

The McLaren and the TT RS are both mine. Launching the 570 is a $#@!. Thereís something in the 570 ECU that backs down power if thereís too much grip. I guess Iíd rather have a lousy 60í than a busted differential. The car launches much harder on the street. The Audi was a total impulse buy and the car impresses the hell out of me. Iíve had all kinds of exotics over the years but Iíd rank the TT RS as one of my all time favorite cars. I have an IMS850 turbo and brushless fuel system being installed in a few weeks. The McLaren doesnít stand a chance.

Colorado is a great place and Bandimere is a beautiful track but those 8000 DAs are a real buzz kill!

That wil be a lot of fun to have the Mclaren bplaying catch-up. If you haven't selected a shop I can't say enough great things about bluewater. They installed the clutch and hybrid in my Mk2 in January and it has been running like a top. Let me know if you're planning to head to Bandimere again anytime soon. I think I just saw you out there as I was leaving... I only got 1 clean run in and it was getting too crowded for my liking. Best of luck today!

Does it really get that crowded? That's pretty cool. Even though I don't like big crowds either a lot of the time.

It wasn't too crazy, but I'd have to guess 30-40 mins between runs by the time I left. I had the girlfriend with me so I called it a day at that point.
