A very interesting comparison here by Magnuson of three Eaton TVS based superchargers on the C6 Corvette Z06 LT4 motor. The motor comes from the factory with a small TVS1740 blower and you get to see on 91 octane pump fuel just how much more power the bigger blowers provide. Bigger is not always better but in this case with the TVS blowers on the LT4 it happens to be and shows GM made a mistake with the tiny TVS1740. If you look down low in the rev range the superchargers offer similar torque but the difference in flow capability really shows as the motor is revved out and the bigger blowers can supply more air to the motor: The TVS2650 is just the way to go for the LT4 and now you know why the LT5 comes from the factory with it. The TVS2650 with a retune and higher boost thanks to methanol injection managed to easily eclipse 800 horsepower to the wheels still on the same 91 octane pump fuel: Magnuson feels the TVS2650 is good for roughly 1200 rear wheel horsepower which one could argue is even mathematically conservative on the LT4 platform. Magnuson goes into further details in the video below:

Motorsports separate the men from the boys and competing on the professional level certainly requires the highest skill level. Congratulations are due to JDC-Miller Motorsports and their Unitronic / Out There Brands sponsored RS3 for taking home the TCR class win at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park 120. The race is part of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Touring Car class with the following field: So how did it go? From a Pole Position to a five second penalty and things felt like they were falling apart. They went down but came back from behind to take the win in an incredible fashion: IMSA racing is competitive especially in the Touring Car class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Have a Gen 5 direct injected small block V8 from General Motors? Need direct injection fuel injectors capable of higher flow? Well, Xtreme-DI just announced they have injectors for the LT1, LT4, LT5, L86, and L83 V8's that are capable of 45% more flow than stock. Announcement: This is great for those upgrading their direct injection fuel system and fuel pumps to be capable of handling far more fuel than factory injectors can flow. XDI again delivers an aftermarket solution for those with modern direct fuel injection system.

You might be saying, didn't the new Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro lap the Nurburgring in 7:04.6? Yes, it did, in the hands of Mercedes-AMG test drivers. Suffice it to say, Mercedes-AMG has greater resources at its disposal at the Nurburgring than Sport Auto. That is what makes this independent test being only two seconds off the absolute best the factory could do with the car so amazing. It is not easy to get a time like this. The lap test video below is well worth watching not only for the engine sound but just seeing the incredible speed and driving involved. Laptime: 7.06,60 min. | Tyre: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 ZP |

Great to see some 1/2 mile runs with some high end hardware you rarely get independent numbers for. The Ferrari 812 Superfast in particular is not a car you see running too often and it is great to see it run the 1/2 mile along with the 488 GTB. The first race is a stock McLaren 720S going up against a stock Ferrari 812 Superfast. Now, the Ferrari has its work cut out for it. Not only is the Ferrari naturally aspirated it is much heavier than the McLaren. It actually does a commendable job against the monster that is the 720S. 162.15 stock 1/2 mile trap for the Ferrari compared to 169.72 for the 720S: Next up the McLaren 720S runs a Nissan GT-R said to be making 1200 horsepower. The GT-R in theory should demolish the McLaren. The GT-R does win but the 1/2 mile trap between the two is only off by by half a kilometer per hour: Last but not least is a Ferrari 488 GTB. The McLaren 720S makes easy work of it turning a 175.30 mph 1/2 mile trap to the Ferrari's 160.40: Some nice 1/2 mile pulls with high end hardware.

Morgan is a manufacturer we need today. Why? Their cars are about the driving experience. Everything they make is fun to drive from the 3 Wheeler to the Morgan Plus Six. The key is keeping things simple and most importantly light. The Morgan Plus Six gets BMW B58 power mated to a chassis that comes in at 2370 pounds. Do what you want to your Supra or Z4 but you are not making up a 1000+ pound penalty. This is not the first time Morgan utilized BMW power. The Aero 8 series is well known for BMW naturally aspirated power from N62 and S62 engines. The Aero 8 is also more of a modern design and heavier (though still light) compared to the classically styled Plus Six. You can see the Z4 automatic shifter in the cabin. Morgan always offered a manual option but not this time around. Interesting, isn't it? The most engaging and highest performance car with the B58 motor isn't a BMW or the new Supra. It is the Morgan Plus Six.

BimmerBoost already went over many of the technical aspects of the BMW S58 motor but obviously not to this level of detail. BMW's own internal engine technical document is simply fantastic and covers the motor to a level only true enthusiasts will appreciate. It is interesting to note certain details. For example, the oil sump system went to an aluminum pan while the S55 started with a magnesium unit. The S55 shifted to an aluminum design later on in its production cycle. It seems BMW cut costs here. Furthermore, the cam specs are basically identical to the B58B30O1. Intake valve diameter, exhaust valve diameter, maximum valve lift, etc., all the same. Enjoy geeking out over the technical details.

You may have seen headlines proclaiming the new Toyota Supra as a Porsche GT3 equivalent but hold on just a second. Top Gear tested the new Supra on their test track and the 1:23.1 time does indeed put it ahead of a 997.1 GT3 which did it in 1:23.2. What these headlines fail to mention is all the cars ahead of the Supra for context. Also, that that GT3 laptime was not ever officially shown on the Top Gear show. As for cars quicker than the Supra, how about the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio which is much heavier? The Porsche 718 Cayman S. The BMW F80 M3. The Tesla Model 3. The Mercedes W205 C63 AMG S. The Supra time is not bad but let's not start calling it a GT3 rival because it isn't: 01:21.0 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Series 18, Episode 05 01:21.22 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Series 10, Episode 03 01:21.4 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Series 24, Episode 02 01:21.5 Aston Martin DB11 Series 24, Episode 03 01:21.5 Tesla Model 3 Series 27, Episode 02 01:21.6 Porsche Cayman GTS Series 22, Episode 05 01:21.6 BMW F80 M3 Series 24, Episode 02 01:21.6 Porsche 718 Cayman S Series 24, Episode 07 01:21.6 Jaguar F-Type R Series 22, Episode 07 01:21.6 Audi R8 V10 (damp) Series 14, Episode 02 01:21.7 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive Series 20, Episode 04 01:21.9 Ford GT Series 04, Episode 08 01:22.2 Porsche 997 Turbo Cabriolet Series 15, Episode 04 01:22.3 Caterham Seven 620R (wet) Series 21, Episode 04 01:22.3 Audi R8 V10 Spyder Series 15, Episode 04 01:22.3 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale Series 04, Episode 03 01:22.3 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Series 04, Episode 03 01:22.4 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 Series 08, Episode 02 01:22.5 Noble M15 Series 08, Episode 08 01:22.6 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG S N/A 01:22.8 Lexus LFA (wet) Series 14, Episode 07 01:22.9 Ferrari F430 F1 Series 06, Episode 08 01:22.9 Porsche 911 Sport Classic Series 15, Episode 02 01:22.9 Alpine A110 Series 25, Episode 06 01:23.0 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Series 13, Episode 03 01:23.1 KTM X-Bow (Not Shown on TV) (Driven by first white Stig) N/A 01:23.1 Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale Series 18, Episode 05 01:23.1 Toyota Supra Video:
